CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES IN GHANA RISE TO 214 WITH 3 RECOVERY AND FIVE DEATH

Among the cases reported in Greater Accra, four (4) are contacts of confirmed cases with no symptoms and were detected during the enhanced contact tracing and testing.

The other is a Ghanaian citizen under mandatory quarantine who initially tested negative but upon subsequent test, tested positive.

The last case in Greater Accra is a 37-year-old woman with no history of travel nor contact with a confirmed case.


Wentitrel News through the Ghana Health Service confirms nine (9) new COVID-19 cases. Six (6) in Greater Accra and three (3) from Ashanti region.

Greater Accra Region has a total of One hundred and eighty nine (189) cases whilst Ashanti Region has Twelve (12) cases, Northern Region Ten (10) cases, Upper West, Eastern and Upper East Region has recorded one (1) case each.

Among the cases reported in Greater Accra, four (4) are contacts of confirmed cases with no symptoms and were detected during the enhanced contact tracing and testing.


The other is a Ghanaian citizen under mandatory quarantine who initially tested negative but upon subsequent test, tested positive.


The last case in Greater Accra is a 37-year-old woman with no history of travel nor contact with a confirmed case.


Of the three (3) cases from Ashanti region, two (2) are Ghanaians who travelled to Ghana from France within the past 14 days and the third one is a Ghanaian who has no history of travel out of the country nor contact with a any confirmed case.


This brings the total confirmed cases in the country to 214 with five (5) deaths from five (5) whilst two (2) patients remain in critical condition.



Community spread


Ten (10) case are suspected to be a result of community spread. In view of this, there are major concerns of a possible spark of a community spread of COVID-19 in the nation.

Recovered and Discharged

Three (3) persons out of the total confirmed cases recovered full and have been discharged; whilst one patient awaits results of laboratory test to inform decision on discharge.


Thirty-one (31) of confirmed cases improved significantly with no symptoms and therefore, were discharged from admission for home care pending repetition of laboratory tests.

Bringing the total number of cases being managed from home care to forty-nine (49). Previously, 18 patients were discharged for home care since they also showed no symptoms.



Mandatory quarantine


Most of the confirmed cases are reported from routine / enhanced surveillance activities. Ninety (90) confirmed cases was as a result of a 14day mandatory quarantine.


Death


Five (5) deaths has been recorded since the virus was first detected in the country. According to the Ghana Health Service these 5 persons had underlying chronic medical conditions prior to COVID-19 infection
