COVID-19: VICE PRESIDENT DR. MAHAMUDU BAWUMIA DONATES THREE MONTHS SALARY TO COVID-19 FUND

The COVID-19 Fund is to be chaired by former Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo and managed by an independent board of trustees is to receive contributions and donations from the public to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable.

• March has been a difficult month for us as a nation with the Covid-19 infection.

Ultimately, we should all endeavour to stay at home, observe the preventive measures and together create a Covid-19-free society.

VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA, DR. MAHAMUDU BAWUMUA

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumua, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, has followed the kind gesture of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by donating three months of his salary to the COVID-19 Fund commencing from April.


It will be recalled on Friday, 27th March 2020, as the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo addressed the nation on enhanced response to the coronavirus pandemic, he announced the establishment of COVID-19 Fund.


The COVID-19 Fund is to be chaired by former Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo and managed by an independent board of trustees is to receive contributions and donations from the public to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable.

President Akufo-Addo added, he has directed the Controller and Accountant General to pay his next three months’ salary, i.e. April, May and June, into COVID-19 Fund.


Yesterday 28th March, the Vice President in a Facebook post said, to support the kind gesture by the President of directing the Controller and Accountant General to pay his April, May and June salaries to Covid-19 Fund, I am donating three months of my salary starting from April to support the fight against Covid-19.



Dr. Bawumia and the Second Lady of the Republic also empathized with all infected with the virus, and we wish them a speedy recovery. He went on to express his sympathy to families of those who have lost their lives through the virus.


He said, May the souls of the departed rest in the bossom of God.


"Ultimately, we should all endeavour to stay at home, observe the preventive measures and together create a Covid-19-free society", Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said.
