NDPC BEGINS REVIEW OF GOVERNMENT POLICIES

DOCUMENTS WILL BE SENT TO GOVERNMENT FOR INPUT AND CONSIDERATION.

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in collaboration with the Copenhagen Consensus Centre has begun evaluating some of government’s flagship programs and policies in order to make them more effective.

According to the Commission, this will help government properly prioritize policies that will efficiently tackle the various social and economic issues of the country.

“WE WILL ALSO GIVE CHANCE TO DECISION-MAKERS TO ALSO LOOK AT THESE SPECIFIC POLICIES AND HOW THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IMPLEMENT ALONG THE WAY, THE COST AND THE BENEFITS SO FAR AND THEN FURTHER ON WE CAN DECIDE TO REVIEW, SHAPE IT OR KEEP IT AS IT IS AND STRENGTHEN IT TO BECOME MORE EFFICIENT AND MORE EFFECTIVE SO THAT WE CAN GET MORE GAINS FOR GHANAIANS.”

Speaking to Citi News at a stakeholder meeting in Accra, Director-General of the NDPC, Kodjo Essiem Mensah-Abrampa said the documents will be sent to government for input and consideration.

“Some of them include cash transfers for improving birth registration, and what we are doing currently is looking at how we can use certain methods to improve upon the living standards of the poor and what the best strategy is to use. We know that currently there are a lot of programs going on like the LEAP, school feeding among others. So, we are looking at the cost benefit of that and which one to expand and upscale so that we can reach more of these people, and to make the best choice based on the best of data and evidence”.
