'NO MASK, NO ENTRY', WEARING OF FACE MASK MANDATORY IN GREATER ACCRA

A statement signed and released by the Regional Minister, Hon. Ismael Ashitey, announcing the directive, said the move is to ensure compliance with the President’s directives on social distancing and the wearing of face masks protocols.

The Assembly last week launched a campaign to promote the wearing of a nose mask in the city. Currently, anyone entering the Accra City Hall is required to wash his or her hands at the entrance and use sanitizers provided on the ground floor. 



To ensure compliance with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo directives on social distancing and wearing of face masks, the Greater Accra Regional Security (REGSEC) has agreed on mandatory wearing of face masks in the Greater Accra Region by the general public”, in a statement signed and released by the Regional Minister, Ismael Ashitey,


Greater Accra has recorded over 800 cases of COVID-19 and in helping to curb the spread of this virus that has claimed over 185,494 lives and infected more than 2,659,557 persons globally, the Council took this decision in an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in delivering his speech on lifting the three-week restrictions on movement in some parts of the country, the president advised Ghanaians to wear masks to prevent the transmission of Coronavirus in the country and also urged the citizenry to continue to adhere to the safety protocols regarding the virus infection.

The Regional Security Council also agreed the following:



  • Education/Sensitization on the face masks wearing, social and physical distancing by the various MMDAs in their respectively e jurisdictions.

  • Creation of Satellite markets by MMDAs to decongest main markets in the Greater Accra Region.

  • Temporary ban on all ” Special Market Days” in the Region.

  • Installation and use of public address systems BG MMDAs in markets to educate traders on the mandatory face masks wearing, social and physical distancing and all other directives by the President.

  • Commercial drivers to ensure all passengers wear face mask before being allowed to board their vehicles.

  • Notices of “NO FACE MASK, NO ENTRY” should be visibly displayed at vantages points, including offices, lorry stations, shops, markets, malls, banks, and pharmacies among others.


According to the Regional Security Council, the enforcement of these directives, takes immediate effect.
