THE UPPER EAST REGION RECORDS FIRST COVID-19 CASE

Over the week, a total of 64 new cases has been recorded. Ten (10) case is suspected to be as a result of community spread. This particular case also has no travel history or contact with any confirmed case in Ghana.

Major concerns has raised of a possible spark of a community spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Out of the total confirmed cases 205, most of the cases are reported from routine / enhanced surveillance activities. Cases from travellers under mandatory quarantine remain 89.


The Ghana Health Service has confirmed one (1) COVID-19 case in the Upper East Region.

This brings the total confirmed cases in the country to 205 with five (5) deaths from five (5) whilst two (2) patients continue to remain in critical condition. regions.


With this new case in the Upper East, the number of regions has moved up to six (6). The other five includes, Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Upper West and Eastern Region.

The Greater Accra Region has recorded most cases (183) followed by the Northern Region ten (10) cases, Ashanti Region (9) cases, Upper West Region, Eastern Region and Upper East Region has recorded one (1) cases each.


Community spread

Recovered and Discharged

Out of the total confirmed cases, three (3) persons have recovered full and have been discharged; whilst one other is awaiting results of laboratory test to inform decision on discharge.


Thirty-one (31) confirmed cases improved significantly with no symptoms and have been discharged from admission for home care pending repetition of laboratory tests.

This adds to the 18 that were earlier being managed from home and bring the number of cases on home care to forty-nine (49).



Death


A total of Five (5) deaths has been recorded since the virus was first detected in the country. According to the Ghana Health Service these 5 persons had underlying chronic medical conditions prior to COVID-19 infection
